PIE Research

Projects

Seven projects. From passion to the world.

0. Passion Is Ecstasy

Art, Passion and Philosophy

The world has always been broken. Everything is a fake. We all know it from the beginning.

We want it real.

Be obsessed towards the un-oracle. Reach the end.

Always Be Real.

Passion is the engine of being human. Passion leads to ecstasy, and ecstasy leads to philosophy.

Bring works of art into the world — intricate in their detail, dynamic in their expression.

1. World API

From Open Source to the Physical World

First, make open-source software easier to use. Then, make simulations of the world more general-purpose. Ultimately, build an environment where the physical world can be accessed through APIs.

This also lays the groundwork for Physical AI: AI systems that test ideas in the physical world, learn from feedback and improve through that cycle.

2. Telos & Nelos

Distributed Collective Intelligence & Autonomous Artifact Ecology

Telos — Many AI agents write hypotheses, code and results into one shared record, so knowledge carries over from run to run instead of being lost.

Nelos — An environment where AI-made research artifacts are kept or dropped based on evidence such as reproduction and reuse, rather than a single score.

3. Anshinmap

Better Care Decisions, Better Regional Healthcare

Sponsored by Oasis

Anshinmap helps people decide when and where to seek medical care. By improving individual decisions at the micro level, we aim to make regional healthcare work better at the macro level.

We are currently building a simulation to study these interactions. Through direct partnerships with local healthcare providers, we also aim to build our own network of dynamically updated healthcare information. The focus is on the wider regional system.

4. Oshisen!!

Candidate Podcasts & Voting Advice

We interview election candidates directly in an original podcast series, using a consistent format across interviews. The resulting data powers a voting advice application (VAA) that helps people explore their choices.

The project currently serves as a research platform for studying how a candidate’s personality and character influence voting decisions. The focus is on the individual — a micro-level view of decision-making.

5. Epstasy

A Meeting Place for Wild Minds

Sponsored by Hills

Epstasy is PIE’s series of meetups and events. It gives people a place to connect and helps us discover the fucking crazy minds we want to work with.

Held once a month at Tsukuba Startup Park, it brings people together around conversation, ideas and the possibility of building something together.

6. Café philosophique

Where PIE Began

Café philosophique is where PIE began: a space to develop the capacity we value most — the ability to think deeply, question assumptions and engage in philosophy.

As society changes, skills will become obsolete. Your true strength lies in your own capacity for thought and philosophy.

We regularly invite professors from the University of Tokyo to join our sessions. The project has also led to the publication of Hōkago no Tetsugaku (After-School Philosophy).
